Milliken's roots date back to 1865 when Seth Milliken and William Deering founded Deering Milliken Company, a small woolen fabrics company in Portland, Maine. Deering soon left to start his own company. In 1868, Seth Milliken moved the company headquarters to New York City, at that time the heart of the American Textile Industry. In 1884, the company invested in a new facility in Pacolet, South Carolina, and from that basic beginning the manufacturing operations grew.
Milliken's dedication to quality has garnered many prestigious awards worldwide. Milliken is the only textile company in Europe that has been admitted to the British Standards Institute for Excellence in Quality. I am a Pittsburgh native living nearly 300 miles away in another state. I have collected Pittsburgh memorabilia for years, and have a Pittsburgh den which features memorabilia from the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. The room is surrounded in bookshelves which house my extensive sports card albums, has a computer corner and is decorated with steelers wallpaper on the upper half, a faint yellow stripe, topped around the top with Steelers helmet border, and set off by a black, yellow and white striped bordar as a chair rail effect, with white walls on the bottom of the walls. The floor os hardwood called tiger wood, which has random colors of wood allowing me to incorporate the different wood tones in the computer desk, shelving and the floor. The Stweelers carpet is the centerpiece, protecting the hardwood, and allowing my wheeled computer chair to move, but not damage the hardwqoods. Accent pieces are the Steelers drapes and valance, framed Pittsburgh Post Gazette front pages of the Steelers Super Bowl Championships, the last three Pirates World Series Championships, and the recent Penguins Stanley Cup Championship. I have an extensive Pittsburgh bobblehead collection, stadium models, Steeler M&M dispenser and literally scores of other artifacts and collectibles on display. The door to the room is alternately covered with the flag of the current team; Steelers beginning in Septembner, or when the Pirates are eliminated from competition, which has been about June recently. The Steelers flag is on display until they are eliminated, then the Penguins flag is on the door until they are eliminated. I could go on, but....
