About Nourison
In the 1970s, Paul, Edmund, Alex, and Steven Peykar first became involved in the carpet and area rug business at the retail level, operating a store in Westbury, Long Island. Those years provided the brothers with truly invaluable experience in understanding the needs and supply and merchandising issues that confronted retailers who depended on traditional importers and replenishment strategies.
Together, in 1980, the Peykars took these insights and began to turn them into an outstanding success in a wholesale operation with a new and highly focused business philosophy. Initially, the company was called Noury and Sons, in honor of the family patriarch, Noury Peykar. Their strategy was to address the retailer's most vital concern - always having the right rug, in the right color and design, when they needed it. The new company worked on the assumption that delivery was going to be the foundation of long term success.
Known today as Nourison, the company that the Peykars founded in 1980 is now the world's leading and most diversified producer and importer of handmade area rugs. Recognized throughout the home fashion community for the range and exemplary quality of its assortments, the company has achieved a conspicuous leadership position in the market through an aggressively innovative approach to product development.
